John Fogerty @ General Motors Centre

First time that I saw you
Ohh, you took my breath away

I might not get to heaven

But I walked with the angels that day

                      Joy of My Life

John Fogerty left his audience with some remarkable memories.  The Looking Out My Back Door tour arrived at the General Motors Centre in Oshawa with enlightening images, and breath taking effects, but it was the heart of the performer that won the night.

There was something different about this evening.  The crowd was older, but one could see a sprinkle of young people throughout the arena, and they were all singing along together and dancing just as passionately.

The audience welcomed their six string hero with a standing ovation.  He in turn, through his iconic voice and haunting guitar solos kept them on their feet.

We all learned that John Fogerty practices four hours a day and runs six miles every morning which shows that his dedication to his music, and the respect to his fans is unparallel in a music industry that often rewards and manufactures musical caricatures.  He walked and run the wide stage throughout the whole evening in order to share his moment with fans, no matter where fate managed to place them.

He also told them stories.

He recalled Woodstock and how excited he was to play that festival.  CCR was scheduled to take the stage on Saturday, at 9:30pm.  As a young man he was very excited but nobody told him CCR would follow the Grateful Dead.  The show ran late.  The Grateful Dead began their set at midnight and were interrupted when all the sound went dead.  When they were finished it was 2:30 in the morning.  “I saw a lot of people that looked like me, except they were naked and asleep” he told the crowd.  There was only one fan with a lighter who urged them to play.  The band played on and John Fogerty wondered who would stop the rain?

The evening was very retrospective.  John Fogerty whispered I love you to his daughter Julie at the end of his performance of Joy of my Life.  He dedicated Have you ever seen the rain?  to his daughter Kelsey.  He explained that there is no mistaking it for a sad song, but he no longer thinks and writes about the rain, but rather lives for the rainbow.

The fight with the record company is now behind him and John Fogerty is looking to the future and enjoying the present.  The tour continues and those who are lucky to flood the arenas will have memories to share for the ages.

Bradford Greenhouses Garden Gallery: A destination for fun, florals and fantastic events!

Starting off a new year is one of beginnings, perspectives and the opportunity to shine a light on those pesky resolutions we seem to have such a difficult time committing to. Luckily, the folks at the Bradford Greenhouses Garden Gallery are there with their helpful and knowledgeable staff to bring some 'fresh' ideas to the table for 2012.

Kicking off the year with their 3rd Annual Women's Show, the centre for gardening and events curated a weekend of fitness demonstrations, cooking classes, gardening advice, fashion shows, info-sessions on plastic surgery and even a special Q&A with TV personality and parenting expert, Nanny Robina

The variety of exhibitors was incredible! With over 75 different products and services on showcase, ranging from health and wellness, to beauty, cosmetics, and food, the Women's Show was not to be missed. Over the course of the 2-day event (January 7th/8th, 2012), attendees were able to network with other like-minded businesses and women, while indulging in some of the sweet extras the event offered. Some highlights: the fabulous fashion shows put on by PIE Media Group, shortbread cookies from Sprucewood Cookies (so many different flavours!), on-site treatments from the ladies at T-Zone and even Botox from Dr. Barb at Laser Health Works. There is no doubt that event was a blast and there was no shortage of valuable information on how to make 2012 the best year possible - all while spending a great day out with your girlfriends.

One of the most impressive aspects of the weekend was the Garden Gallery's amazing use of their space as a multi-functional retail and event space. Having the opportunity to maneuver between the beautiful fresh flowers and plants in their greenhouses, while still enjoying all the Women's Show had to offer, was quite a treat for many people. Capitalizing on their ability to host and produce fabulous events, the Bradford Greenhouses have developed their own in-house event production company, GreenHAUS Productions.
Since January 2010 the events division has been catering to an increased demand for more trade show and event space north of Toronto. Their goal is to deliver relevant, successful events and provide the community with a destination for residents to find the best in what their local businesses have to offer. The first ever Women's Show (2010) was the organizations first  fabulous event, and since they have been able to include the annual Spring Home & Garden Shows, Barrie Fall Home Shows, and even a special Big Boys Big Toys Show to their production portfolio.

With two massive locations, Bradford Greenhouses is your one-stop-shop to fulfill all of your home decor and garden needs. Featuring over 87, 000 square feet of nursery stock at their Barrie location, they can proudly boast one of Ontario's only indoor climate controlled nurseries. With thousands of varieties to choose from, the impressive selection ranges from traditional to unique to ornate. The team at the gallery guarantees you will find the right perennials, trees, shrubs, vines, or roses that best reflect your garden and sense of style.

A family run business from the get-go, the greenhouses also have a unique history to go along with their unique brand. Bradford Greenhouses is a true Canadian success story. In 1956 Francis Ferragine immigrated to Canada from England with his wife and children. For the next four years, Francis and his family spent their time working as labourers in the Holland Marsh for local farmers. In 1961 Francis purchased the property they now call home, in Bradford, and began growing a company. By 1975 Bradfrod Greenhouses had opened a full retail operation on Hwy 11 in Bradford, Ontario and in 1993 Bradford Greenhouses open it's flagship retail store in Barrie.

Today, Bradford Greenhouses Ltd is one of the largest greenhouse growers and retailers in central Ontario. In 1999 Francis Ferragine passed away due to illness but his legacy and his family continue to grow. One of Ontario's famous faces in the world of gardening, Frank Ferragine, aka Frankie Flowers, has been able to share his family's knowledge of the green thumb through television stations such as CityTV and as an on-air radio personality for Barrie's B101.1 radio station.

Bradford Greenhouses hosts three fantastic different tradeshows each and every year. They include The Women's Show, Spring Garden and Home Show, and the Fall Home Show. Details on all of these events can be found by clicking on the GreenHAUS Productions link below.

Serene & Sexy: Sophistication Salon in Barrie raises the bar

Tucked away in the Commerce Park area of Barrie, Sophistication Salon is a refreshingly open-concept and open-minded, one-stop-shop for your high-end hair and beauty services.

Whether you are looking for a fast and fabulous blow out, or a full-on makeover, Sophistication Salon will help you achieve a luxurious, modern look.

Not too long after it's opening last September, PIE was tipped off on this special salon located in the southern most  part of Barrie. Since inception, Sophistication has come to attract a large local clientele, not to mention the select group that even travel from Toronto to receive services from the talented team at Sophistication.

Upon entering and meeting the very stylish staff, one is greeted with a sense of friendliness, ease and luxury. This glow seems to come from the gorgeous, SoHo loft-like interior layout, consistent colour story and design and of course, the people behind the chairs.

The salon itself is located in a small plaza on Commerce Park Drive, just behind the hustle and bustle that is Mapleview Drive. Painted in the soft shades of lilac and mauve, with accents of sage and dark purple, Sophistication is instantly relaxing and draws it's clients in.

A paired down decor helps to keep this environment streamlined and chic. Full length mirrors sit in front of each chair, allowing the already open-space to seem even larger and fabulously huge lantern-like chandeliers hung from the ceiling add an elegant touch and emphasize the lofty feeling. Located on the main floor of the salon are the cutting area, sinks, front line and aesthetics zone. There is also bags, jewellery and other accessories available for purchase, solidifying itself even more as a "one-stop-shop". In the loft area of Sophisitcation is where you will find the fully-stocked, top of the line L'ANZA colour bar. Utilizing this area really gives this salon it's individual edge.

One of the interesting things about the salon are the owners themselves. Born out of a long hairstylist-client relationship, super-cool Sophie (the hairstylist) and Montreal-er Isabelle (the client), decided that starting a salon together, was the next natural step personally and professionally. Now, Isabelle works as the business side of the Sophistication Salon brain, and Sophie handles what she loves best, the hair.

Extending their lifestyle philosophies into their business, Sophie and Isabelle and very excited about being able to share the L'ANZA Healing Hair system with clients at Sophistication. One of only two salons nationally offering this product line and system, the salon boasts this as one of their biggest draws. The L'ANZA hair care system is a superior program focused on healing damaged hair with natural and botanical elements - shying away from the harsh chemical compounds commonly found in hair products. Of all the wonderful services offered here, this impressive line is definitely something to check out, and the experts at Sophistication can help you along the way. From head - to toe.

Body by Vi: the transformational, result-based, vitamin and supplement program

Before the holiday season has even begun, I'm finding myself worrying about how to tackle all that excess "padding" that seems to appear the two-weeks before each New Year. The seemingly endless flow of h'ors douvres, dinners and of course, cocktails that we are met with during the month of December, it's no wonder that we'd like to have some type of healthy light at the end of the dark tunnel.

Aside from it being that special time of the year, ongoing good health and vitality is something important to pretty much every single one of us. From counting calories to logging our daily weight, educating ourselves on how our bodies work and what is best for them has almost become a full time job in itself!
On our hunt for some solutions to these all to familiar problems, our journey led us to the discovery of Body by Vi. This amazing weight-loss and supplement program that is easy to use, completely approachable and designed to integrate flawlessly with your life.

I had the opportunity to meet with Terri, a local sales rep for Body by Vi, and how the program changed her life and inspired her to share this with our community.
Terri's personal story on how she became involved with Body by Vi is one not to unfamiliar from the struggles we all have when dealing with good health and feeling great. Between chronic tiredness, not being able to shake off those last few pounds, and just generally not getting the nutrition she needed in her diet, Terri made the decision to get involved with the program, which launched across Canada in September 2011. The changes were almost immediate and the extended benefits Terri noticed included improved digestive health, glowing skin and a lot more energy.

The Body by Vi program is a combination of weight-loss, vitamin and supplement elements that consist of the Vi-shape Nutritional Shake, four daily vitamin and anti-oxidant capsules, the ViSalus NUERO energy drinks, and delicious Nutra-Cookies. The centerpiece and foundation of the program is no doubt the shake. Made to taste like cake batter (amazing, I know), this milk-based mix - Terri recommends using almond milk for added benefit - is packed full with an unbelievable amount of nutrition. To get the equivalent found in one serving of the Vi-Shape shake you would need to eat over $100 in groceries and 8,600 calories!

Beyond the super shake, the benefits of the rest of the system are really what balances the program out and really packs the punch to get your body back in check. The cellular rejuvenation system, aka daily capsules, is the most complete health system on the market featuring patented anti-aging formulas designed to support your health at a cellular level.

For 2012, Terri is planning on offering an awesome incentive for people who want to join the Body by Vi 90-Day Challenge in the new year, by having a Body Makeover Competition. Leading up to a big before and after reveal fashion show event in downtown Barrie, entrants will find this a fabulous way to get healthy and start the new year off right!

For more information on the Body by Vi 90-Day Challenge, the program and elements that make it up, or to get involved yourself, check out the site here: askmewhy.bodybyvi.com!
